Double A is Red Land Youth Baseball’s beginner-level division for young players. This level maintains a primary focus on instruction, skill development, and learning more about the game of baseball. Although standings are not kept, this level does become more competitive as players begin to understand player and team skill levels. Games and practices at this level are held on fields with 60’ foot base paths. Players will begin to pitch the ball from a modified distance (approximately 43’). Amain objective of Double A is to help players take a big step forward in the development of their baseball fundamentals. Players will begin to sharpen theirbasic skills of hitting, fielding, throwing, and catching. Semi-advanced concepts of baserunning, defensive alignments/plays, and game-strategy will be introduced. In addition, a strong emphasis will be placed on understanding the rules of baseball. BOTH player-pitching and machine-pitching will be utilized. There WILL NOT be coach-pitching at this level. Reduced Injury Factor (RIF) baseballs will be used to ensure safety, reduce fear of ball impact, and enhance skill developmentfor young players. Also, there are opportunities for players with advanced skills to compete on postseason All-Star teams and compete in end of season tournaments.
